Media Watch: Divine Wit

A regular feature of the Gazelle will be the Media Watch. This will be a Christian response to the level of illiteracy of what passes for religious comment in the newspapers (Is that subtle enough?).

For instance, I watched a TV programme this weekend that I enjoy for a variety of reasons: good plot, good writing, good acting, and as a who-dunnit, fairly unpredictable. But this episode used a religious fanatic, a priest of course, as the murderer, and proved the point that TV (and movie) writers can't do religion. (more)

The Occasional #126

Long, long ago, in a land far away and in a time before anyone had heard of the word ‘blog’, I began to send an email letter to family and friends, simply making observations on life around me. My family were living in the Philippines at the time, and there was a rich variety of life of a new kind around us. I wanted to relate some of it to people who could not come and see it for themselves. I had no expectations of how long or how often I would send a letter—so, I called it ‘The Occasional Letter’, a more truthful title than ‘The Daily Gazelle’.

That was ten years ago, and I continued to write irregularly until the beginning of 2005. It was not my intention to stop writing. It was not that I had nothing in mind to write about. But, I stopped writing. Why? (more)
